stopped at a planned-neighborhood park
she wonders what life’s like inside them
and if it’s safe here after dark
a stray tumbleweed marks her path
and she knows she’s not meant to ask

but she knows she’s not the conventional kind
she offers only what she can give
a moment’s repose

meanwhile: the high desert wind blows
