I don’t know (oh-way-oh)

3 ships on the Northern Sea I sailed with you I sailed with you
We thought we’d lost one in the night
Red sky was the morning Dark sky was bright dark sky was bright
Our world seemed turned upside-down

I don’t know (oh-way-oh)
How to ballast a ship
Ay Cap’n away we go
Don’t let me rush in

Painting neon in your sky
Merchants calling us ashore
Pacing seagulls to your right
They take what you give them disappear into the night

We tripped an icebreaker could feel volcanoes rumble underneath
We stayed the course as best we could
One route had pirates and another sickness round the bend
The way you pointed us was right

Into the heart of pain we floated through numbness
Until it too subsided and consciousness came
Nothing left to chance we were the corsairs of our time
Painting neon in your sky
Merchants calling us ashore

I don’t know (oh-way-oh)
How to ballast a ship
Ay Cap’n away we go
Don’t let me rush in

We are a product of black & white
A cultural phenomenon
The origin of flight
As I race my body away
from the pain
I find myself again
without shoes in the rain
So I step in the puddles
I splash your leather coat
then laughter the
smiles & the perfect
antidote

As I feel this strongly
My soul deepens
Into the blue I have fallen
And I scared into the darkness

But I not to let go
until I am ready
Slipping sliding learning
letting go
Open me up further to love
Where it hurts so sweet
and deep
And I am flying beyond
the blue into
both lightness and darkness
Open my mouth as I
sing clearly only
of the truth
My soul flies free again

Some things were hoping for
Just didn’t come true
That doesn’t mean we can’t
Hope still
Unless that door is closed
Please leave it open a crack
And know we can never go back
To the way it was
It’s already different
Feel the draft
Through my open door
But come only when you’re ready
For I am a fragile heart
Not to be played with lightly
I swim deep
If you invite me into your ocean
In your own time
At your own pace
Within your own place
I will fit there
But keep me at bay
Because I attack too soon
Then I hide like the moon
Until I am full

The setting sun speaks clearly
in this altitude
I must return to the place
where it started
we’re all in some ways
dearly departed
