Keep Going

Skipping around
watch my step
See if I happen to fall
I’m stalling
Because I don’t know what’s next
And don’t really want to think about it
But I do
Can’t help myself
feel these feelings
dream this dream
This time
I don’t need to scream
I’m older now
Almost grown up
Who’s to say though
How much more might I grow
I hear a constant tone
And I make so many mistakes these days
But I keep going

Little Trip

Haystacks on a mountain in Austria
Tall bridges over seas
Tunnels to Italy
Valleys and peaks
Beautiful country
Beautiful companion
Where you can see through to the snow
The lush green of the countryside
Steep forest hills
Grapevines up the mountain
A stranger on the train
With an accent of red
Lonely, are you lonely
I am not, and not alone
The dark bones of the mountain
Thru the earth and in between
Motion in poetry song
And rhyme
It’s time
Out the other side
Ascent, descent
Ears popping
Look where you arrive
Where’s the light and the end of the
___
Arrived in Munchen
Took S-Bahn to Haupbahnhof
Walked to Holtel Uhland
Took an afternoon, after-flight nap
Walked down Neuhausstrasse
And to the Marianplatz
Saw church of St. Paul
The church of St. Michael
St. Paul, beautiful from the outside, large and open on the inside, with a pictoral painting depicting St. Paul being struck by God in a bolt of light – knocked from his horse and a wooden carving of Jesus on the cross
St. Michael, not particularly interesting from the outside, but inside beautiful dome ceilings and ornate walls, he angel – gold and center
Briefly stepped inside St. Peters just off Marianplatz, gorgeous on the ouside, tall and open inside
Neues Rathaus with the Glockenspiel, carvings and spires, gargoyles and figurines
Stopped off at a Weingarten for potatoes and sausage, kase pretzel and sparkling lemon water
Klaus entertained and a little old lady danced
Walked the streets of Munchen during an argument, managing to not get lost and return to reality of an mazing journey
Hofbrau Haus, loud and raucous bier all around all sizes, shapes, colors drinking bier
We each had a huge glass of light and split a glass of dark
Happy drunks, no sad ones here
A fight, brawl, broke out, one side won, one side lost, the loser disappeared
A table of jovial men in song
A picture of a couple
And a walk home in the rain
Warm weather, cool evening breeze
Hotel Uhland, safe and sound
Love, sleep, and then the morning
Racing in the rain to make the train
We made it to the train
Platform 11
To Verona, Italy
___
On the train
The German countryside
Mists of mountains
And soon the Alps
Through Austria
And Innsbruck
Chalets on the mountainside
Snow at the tips
A hint of what Winter might be like
And on traveling with the river
Into Italy
Through the mountain tunnels
Italy with wineries on the hills
Rows of grapes going up mountains
Small, quiet towns
Castles, homes, churches
Up in the hills
Architecture splendid and different
Past the hills, into the flatland
Change trains in Verona
Ham & cheese croissant
In the hometown of Romeo & Juliet
At the foot of Venice, Mestre
___
Venezia, Venice
With an immediate view of Le Grande Canal
We take Line 82 ACTV around the outside of the Venetian Islands
Is THAT San Marcos? So many beautiful churches with domes and spires
But finally we see Ducale and the mosque-like domes beyond of St. Mark’s Basilica
People, tourists everywhere
Picture taking started on the boat
Here is an old, distinct city of canals and crevices between the buildings
A maze of amazing old buildings all different colors, slightly Oriental architecture complete with flowers in the windows
We go inside St. Mark’s Basilica – every inch of ceiling, wall, and floor elaborately decorated with gold, paintings of saints, rugs and tile, chandeliers hang down, and all built up around the tomb of St. Mark
Hot, humid and tired, we attempt to find our Hotel Cavaletto amongst the endless corridors
We finally find it, right off Piazza San Marcos, rest and off again
Pizza Margherita, gelato, cappucino
Red wine at a stumbled across restaurant
Finding our way to Rialto Bridge
Walking on the other side of the Grande Canal
Dinner at a local restaurant on the patio below the wooden windows and doors with red and white flowers
Touching the water below Rialto
Returning to San Marcos
Chasing the sound of fireworks I am not scared, only excited and pray we will see at least one burst in the sky
For what reason were they going off? We don’t know but it’s as if the best were saved for our very eyes and ears
Incredible colors and lights in the sky of beautiful Venice
To an historic cafe with gelato, amaretto liquor and cappucino
Chased by the waiter 50,000 Lire!
A rose from a boy
Found an easy way to hotel, just off Piazza San Marcos
Love the Venetian glass
Didn’t get to take gondola ride
But to ACTV boat, front row seats, down Grande Canal
What a great view of Venice!
___
Florence (Firenze)
Train to Firenze only a couple hours
Barely made it in time
Duomo – Famous Cathedral
rain in Firenze
umbrellas on the street
an American boy drawing in his sketch pad
Uffizi so crowded, it’s booked for several days even to get a reservation
Other museums, but less time
A look for shoes, a little bit of shopping
Looking for the big marketplace we never found
Dinner at a restaurant around a corner
Finally good Italian food, but not nearly enough
___
I feel compelled to write or draw or sing
But I cannot find the words, the color, or the language
I am experiencing all these emotions so intensely inside
I don’t know what to feel
Overwhelming exotic unsure
Definite delighted certain
In love in wonder in awe
Life is this way
It is all of it
Hits you the same if you linger
(Paris)
___
The lady sitting beside you is the “sweetie” that the man was waving and blowing kisses to when we departed Paris. That’s why she was crying. He was running alongside the train waving goodbye. How dramatically romantic…
___
PARIS!
I love Paris… what more can I say?
Sitting, or rather standing, here at Gare Est, sipping a cappucino.
Waiting for the Eurocity 67 train.
___
Later Note: These were excerpts from a quick trip through Germany, Italy, and France. Obviously, experience overrode the time to write after a certain point. Other brief stopping points were in Rome (so incredibly OLD and historic) and the Vatican (wow) as well as Nice with my feet in and the trains on the Mediterranean. I could feel the tip of Africa on the other side. I could sense more European delights to the north. I could hear the music of Eastern Europe and the Middle East. So much world to see, all of it in the blink of an eye.

God, I’m not even sure what to say
I’m trying to make sense of this life, my life
It’s hard to see it any other way
I am feeling very sad tonight
I need a reminder that this world is beautiful and good
In the midst of all the problems and the pain
The challenges and the release
I don’t know which books to read
I don’t know whose stories to believe
I only know what touches me
And it’s a little bit of everything
It’s the sound and the voice
And the tickle in the touch
The color in the eyes
Though these eyes want to cry
I can’t seem to find the tears
Perhaps they will find me
I know I’m not out to save the world
But what can I do?
All of these things so deeply rooted

May I have a moment
to relax, rest
disappear
Then reappear
And disappear again
Into the unknown
Into the space that
gives light
That gives life
May I forget momentarily
Who I am
Where I come from
What path I’m on
Just to look out
Through my own eyes
And see another world
A world that’s
fair and just
And I don’t have to
say anything
Or move in a certain way
For fear of being
left behind
or ignored
I can close my eyes
And listen to the silence
The beauty within
And you can see it too

Try Me

I’d like to chop my hair
grow the garden
sweep away dust
learn to trust
in whatever it is
that guides me
even if it means
I don’t sleep
and I have to wait
for the next train
but I also have
to work very hard
to allow in
what I really want
give me the strength
to continue
and to be true
in all that I do
when I share
it will be of value
not just mere words
but wisdom
from a life of learning
and unknowing
no certainty
I don’t know
we’ll see
try me

This ideal world is mine
Of another mind
A mind of words
And spelling
Instead of thought
Pictures visit
Words stay
Sounds come every day
The dance goes on
I sing the song
& then I’m on my way

Beauty

Beauty is coming to visit
And I’m living with yet another angel
Sleep well, all
And what shall come to pass
Is but happiness
In a fleeting moment
Lasts forever
Sweet Dreams
